the song

In Sweden, most kids are already familiar with the children's song about the Three Billy Goats Gruff ("Bockarna Bruse"). In the States however this is most likely not the case, so here's my translation of the song!

  As Little Billy Goat Gruff
came to cross the Old Troll's bridge
"I'll get you" yelled the Troll, Little Goat turned and said:
"No, no, no - don't take me - take the one who's after me.
Take our middle goat, rich with furry coat."

When Middle Billy Goat Gruff
came to cross the Old Troll's bridge
"I'll get you" yelled the Troll, and Middle Goat turned and said:
"No, no, no - don't take me - take the one who's after me.
Take our Great Big Goat, rich with furry coat."

Now Great Big Billy Goat Gruff
came to cross the Old Troll's bridge
"I'll get you" yelled the Troll, Great Big Goat turned and said:
"I am not afraid of you! Come up here and I'll show you"
Said the Great Big Goat, rich with furry coat.

Then Great Big Billy Goat Gruff
bumped the Troll into the stream
so all the Billy Goats Gruff walked safely 'cross the bridge
While this song now finds it's end
these three Gruff Billy Goats round the bend
to find the grass is greener
thicker, richer, sweeter
